Fuel the Fires of Creativity
For more than fifty years, the Loft has helped writers at every stage of their journey to spark and tend the fires of their creativity. But fire needs fuel to last.
When you donate to the Loft, you help to provide the time, space, and resources for writers to keep creating. In the face of book bans, censorship, and attacks on arts and cultural institutions, your gift ensures that stories don’t burn out in isolation but continue to guide, challenge, and sustain us.
A gift of any size makes you a Friend of the Loft and includes many benefits, including a community of people who believe in the power of writers, readers, and stories. Gifts of $90 or more and monthly donations of $7.50 or more qualify you for additional perks like discounts on classes and events, access to our writers’ studios, and priority access to exclusive literary and community events.
Become a Friend of the Loft today to join our supportive community of wordsmiths and bibliophiles. Whether you’re looking to uncover new interests, connect with fellow writers and readers, spark your creative momentum, or refine and elevate your craft, you’ll find fuel for creativity and connections here at the Loft.
Together with your support, the Loft will remain the place writers and readers can experience the transformative power of the word through classes, events, mentorships, and fellowships. Make a gift today to sustain the prose and poetry that liberates minds, deepens relationships, and inspires movements for people and planet.

Changes to Loft Friend benefits
For nearly 20 years, we’ve offered discounts on Loft programming to Friends who donate $60 or more a year. While the threshold for receiving this valuable benefit hasn’t changed since 2005, the value of a dollar certainly has, and $60 doesn’t go as far as it did back then. Beginning June 3, 2025 we’re increasing the threshold for receiving the 10% discount on Loft programming to contributions of $90 or more a year (that’s an increase of $5/month to $7.50/month).
We value being able to make writing and learning more accessible by offering this benefit, and it's important to us that our Friends feel appreciated for all they make possible. Donations of any amount enable us to compensate our teaching artists and staff fairly, maintaining the high caliber of programming and creative expertise you’ve come to expect from the Loft. We also rely on the steadfast support of our individual supporters as institutional funding for the arts becomes increasingly more precarious.
We recognize this is an economically uncertain time for everyone in our community, and we appreciate your understanding and continued support as we take steps to ensure the sustainability of the Loft’s mission and programs.
Host a Loft Friend & Fundraiser in your home or at your workplace to raise money for the Loft, introduce new people to our community, and take in a literary reading with a featured Loft artist. Contact the Loft’s development team at [email protected] or 612-215-2598 for more information.
Make a gift with a lasting impact on future generations of readers and writers. A gift through your will, estate, or other planned designation marks your legacy as a visionary Loft leader.
