They’ll talk craft, discuss Dessa's latest projects, goof off, and invite questions from the audience. The event will begin at 7:30, but arrive at 7 for a happy hour at the Cafe, with music from multi-talented performer LOTT.

Dessa’s new book (My Own Devices) and recent album (Chime) will be available on site. Dessa will chatting post show, with a Sharpie in hand, happy to sign copies.

LOTT—the solo project of Minneapolis musician, Leah Ottman (We Are The Willows)—started as a desire to express creativity and love for the violin by merging the two worlds of classical and contemporary music. LOTT has been likened to a modern day torch singer of indie music—both in her lyrical themes and vocal styling. The core inspiration for LOTT's compositions is the Romantic Period of classical music: the chordal structures, intervals, and melodies heard throughout her songs are reminiscent of those used by Dvorak,Tchaikovsky, and Ravel, and then condensed into pop songs. She explores the range on her violin by utilizing a looping pedal and similar techniques employed by looping violinist pioneers, Andrew Bird, Kishi Bashi, and Owen Pallet.
Safy-Hallan Farrah (@SafyHallanFarrah) is a freelance journalist who has contributed to the New York Times, Vogue, Nylon, and Pitchfork.
