What is it about the gross stuff that is so fascinating? Why do we get the giggles when somebody toots? What do we think about when we see someone picking their nose? Well, school is out! In this class, we get to talk about the weird, stinky, awkward, horrible, and bizarre things people do and what is so funny about it. We'll read some funny stories, play fun games to get our imaginations rolling, brainstorm what makes the gross stuff funny - all while gaining skills in writing, reading, and engaging our imaginations.
We will collaborate every day through various writing exercises to explore different methods of storytelling. Short indoor field trips around Open Book and theatrical play will help us expand our ideas on setting, and on visualizing our plots. By honing these skills in perspective through play, we will learn to identify our audience and dive into developing our own voice and style so we can confidently build our own stories. As we discuss the more natural feelings and impulses we have as humans that we are often told are “unseemly” or “unattractive,” we will look at situations through a critical lens to further explore cultural overlaps in expected behavior, while finding space to relate to one another through humor and shared stories.
