You've got a story—something you've written, or something you've been knocking around in your mind for a while—and you think, "Is this a movie?" This class is designed to help you answer that question. It's designed for writers of all levels who are wondering whether their story (or story idea) has the potential to be a full-length, narrative screenplay.
We'll examine the steps screenwriters took to adapt the short story Brokeback Mountain, by Annie Proulx, into a full-length, Oscar-winning script and film. We'll do it by breaking down the elements of screenwriting through the lens of story. In class, you'll have the opportunity to see if your story or idea can be adapted into a compelling, fully-realized screen story. The class is structured as an interactive seminar with small group work and in-class writing.
