The rise of alternative facts has made the notion of unearthing truth feel more elusive than ever. Whether it's literary journalism or personal narrative, compelling longform rises above the noise, creates the space for deeper inquiry, and guides the reader through an exploration of its subject.

In this class, we'll read and discuss stories that cut through conventional wisdom and preconceived notions to help us understand what others can see and discover what we have overlooked. Readings will come from well-established magazines like The New Yorker and The Atlantic, as well as younger outlets like BuzzFeed, Guernica, and others. Facilitated in-depth group conversation will further enhance our reading experiences, providing a richer appreciation and understanding of the subjects we'll explore together.

Class meets 4 times, every other week on Thursday evenings: March 29, April 12, May 3, 17, 2018.
