Are you resolved to get your work out there in 2018? If so, you'll have to write a stand-out query letter! Students will learn the basic of querying literary agents, beginning with tips on doing your best research, the basics of writing a query letter, and crafting a query that will stand out from others in the "slush" pile. You'll learn how to boil a manuscript down into a synopsis, what to include in an author bio, and much more.

The class will include samples of several successful queries, and tips and tricks that help increase the chances that an agent will request to read your manuscript. In addition, students will learn how to track queries, when to query and how to follow up. We'll then talk about what to do when an offer of representation is received. The teaching artist will critique the queries during this class. Students will leave this class with a polished query letter, confidence to navigate the query trenches, and a solid game plan to snag an agent. This class is best suited for fiction writers.
