Are you nearly ready to begin submitting your children's or YA manuscript to publishers? This is a class for advanced writers looking to polish their manuscript before beginning the submission process. Writers focusing on fiction or nonfiction for children or young adults, picture books through chapter books to novels, are welcome. But to get the most out of this class, you should have a manuscript in the final revision stages.

The biggest portion of our class time will be spent discussing and workshopping student manuscripts. There will also be in-class time for revision work. We will take a field trip mid-week so students can learn how to access helpful community resources as part of building their writing network.

Along with our focus on polishing one (or more) manuscripts, the class will also address best practices for submitting work to agents and publishers, and activities will include writing query/cover letters and a synopsis.

Students will receive feedback from the teaching artist about their manuscript, its market potential, and their submission package. Students should bring 10 copies of picture book manuscripts, or 10 copies of the first 10 pages of longer manuscripts, to the first class. Bring a bag lunch; we'll break for lunch mid-day.
