Writing a first draft of a novel is a journey that can take longer than most of us expect. In this class, we'll discuss the issues that arise as we work on a long-term project: the plot lines that break and bend, the characters that take over the narrative, the new ideas that wake us up in the middle of the night and threaten to sabotage our previous plans.

Students should be working on a novel project, though this class will not involve workshopping or class review of each other's work. Instead, we'll focus on problem-solving obstacles we face and discussing craft issues in fictional world-building, and gaining insight into our own creative habits and practice.
