We've all read stories that have characters we come to love and hate. How does this real emotional reaction occur when we're talking about people that don't actually exist?

This class will take an in-depth look at how authors create such memorable characters. We'll look at examples of great characters and discuss all the various archetypes that go into developing characters that are multi-layered and engaging as well as practice making our own characters more nuanced and complex. The class will involve large and small group discussion, critical analysis of texts, and lots of in-class writing. Open to all levels.
