In this three hour session we will use poems and short selections to inspire our own writing about this huge and vast topic. Exercises can be adapted to write from either end of the spectrum—what you have observed, and would like to remember and honor about your grand/mother or a mother figure in your life? Or, writing about moments you have experienced as a mother, moments to pause over and record.

Topics will include but are not limited to the joys, insights, losses, disappointments, triumphs, lessons, gifts—waiting to be written down. Expect to leave with a good start on several short pieces (or poems) that are ready to give as gifts (with perhaps some editing attention!).

Writers we will draw from: Naomi Shihab Nye, Lucille Clifton, Deborah Keenan, Maya Angelou.
