This class will begin by looking at what makes food writing work by looking at essays and articles by M.F.K. Fisher, Laurie Colwin, Amanda Hesser, and Francis Lam. We will talk about how to open essays with evocative descriptions and vivid details. We'll use writing exercises to help you mine your food experiences. We'll talk about how to tell your food story in a way that holds interest and leaves the reader satisfied. You'll be given essay prompts each week and have a chance to share excerpts with the group. There will be guidance on revision and and ideas about where to submit your essays.
