It's easy to get into a revision rut when your usual strategies just aren't working out. It can be difficult to tell what a poem needs, and to be honest with yourself about what's not working in your piece. If you're ready to break open your poem's structure, form, and voice, join us to explore techniques for radically revising your writing!
We'll use multiple in-class exercises, individually and in small groups, to go beyond surface-level revisions so you can approach your poems with a new outlook. We'll also look at advice and examples of radical revision from established writers to gain some perspective on the purpose of revising and what it can accomplish. This class is open to writers at all levels. Students should plan to bring up to two poems (no longer than one page each) that they're hoping to revise. If you prefer to work on a computer, you may wish to bring a laptop or tablet to use for the in-class exercises.
