Want to read your poems more effectively to an audience? Interested in discovering new ways to really hear your own poetry as a means of writing better? Poetry is primarily an oral form; the best poetry operates not just on the level of meaning but through the sound and associations of words and phrases.
In this class, we'll practice reading brand new poems aloud, listening for where the language and voice is working to give the reader/audience new insights and perceptions, and where we need to revise the words and our approach to be more effective on the page and in front of an audience.
Come prepared to write and to immerse yourself in a friendly, low-risk environment that will allow us to experiment freely with a range of ways to write and read poetry aloud. Leave with new ways to approach your writing with fresh ears and eyes. All levels welcome—including total beginners and experienced poets.
