If you've always wanted to try writing poems but don't know where to start, this is the class for you! Designed for writers who are new to poetry or looking to learn more about it, this class will provide an in-depth introduction to the building blocks of poetry.

Each week will focus on a different craft element, such as imagery, rhythm, form, line, and more. We'll read and discuss a variety of poems that demonstrate these elements, and students will have the chance to put their new knowledge into practice, writing their own poems with the help of guided exercises and prompts. Students also have the option to submit work each week for the teaching artist to read and comment on.

During the final class meeting, students will have the option to share a poem and give feedback to each other in a supportive environment. This class is a great option for writers who have never tried poetry before, as well as those looking for a refresher class in the basics. There is a $5 copy fee, payable to the teaching artist.
