Less is more—most of the time. In this class, we'll explore the impact of concision in our writing, learn to write/edit tight prose, and discover when our sentences might benefit from a little elaboration. We'll learn to line-edit, sample widely (zeroing in on creative nonfiction and literary fiction) write wildly, dip into poetry, and glean strategies for maximal impact. Please read the essay "Some Dreamers of the Golden Dream," found in Slouching Towards Bethlehem, by Joan Didion, before class.
