Are you a newcomer to reading poetry who longs for a guide into the poem? Or a seasoned poetry reader who'd like a fresh approach to the genre? Perhaps your experience with poetry falls somewhere in between. Wherever you are on the poetry-reading spectrum, this workshop is for you. The teaching artist, a poet herself, will introduce you to a new pathway into the language and experience of a poem. Then we'll put the pathway to the test while reading together poems by Poets Laureate of the United States.

We'll sink into the rich and varied poetry of some of these masters, starting with Tracy K. Smith, our current Poet Laureate. Then we'll dip into the list and read work by poets such as Juan Felipe Herrera, Natasha Trethewey, Philip Levine, W.S. Merwin, Kay Ryan, Louise Gluck, Rita Dove, Billy Collins, Robert Pinsky, Gwendolyn Brooks, and Mark Strand. You'll come away from class with more confidence about knowing what a poem says to you and how it says it. What a perfect way to celebrate National Poetry Month. Copy fee $7.00
