Memoir is a literary genre that makes a story and makes sense out of an author’s memories. Commonly, a memoir also contains the author’s present reflection or perspectives on those memories.

The first half of this master’s class for advanced writers will include conversations on the elements of craft supported by touchstone readings and writing prompts designed to help the authors build pages toward their own memoirs. In the second half of the class, we will read and workshop each other’s manuscripts. We will read as the audience the author intends and offer thoughts and edits on the manuscript’s accuracy, detail, narration, scenes, dialogue, pacing, imagery, setting, musicality, reflection, and voice.

This workshop is open to writers who have a “nearly-there” manuscript in hand, but also to those who desire guidance finishing a started memoir. All participants should have at least ten pages of polished memoir before the beginning of the class.

No class 11/21.
