Whether you have a dozen ideas for a movie or TV show or you've already begun writing your script, this class is designed to expand and hone your screenwriting skillset. You will have the opportunity to pitch and develop your concept as we examine how to elevate your story.
With an eye toward the visual strengths of film and an ear for expressive dialogue, we will focus on story arc, audience engagement tactics, and creating a compelling protagonist. Appreciating the differences between writing for screen and other mediums, we will use the three-act structure as a guide in crafting a plot and/or treatment for a screenplay. By the end of the class, you will have written the first draft of the key scenes in your script.
$3 copy fee payable to the teaching artist. In the second class in the series, to be scheduled in winter, 2017/18, we will focus on scene shape and transitions, while promoting character development through dialogue and action. The third class in the series (spring 2018) will offer even more opportunities to workshop and revise your script.
