You've taken "Book In a Month," and the book needs more than a month. Or you gave NaNoWriMo a shot, and the book needs another shot. Or you've drafted a book, and it needs revision. Rest assured, they all do.
In this class you will take up where you left off. Your concentrated efforts will be aimed at meeting your book's needs; we'll work together to figure out what those needs are and how to meet them, taking a long view of the whole, sharpening our focus on the parts.
In each session students will address a particular aspect of the WIP (work in progress) by reading and inviting feedback, brainstorming, and trying out various methods aimed at imagining and re-imagining plot, conflict, character, and dialogue. We will set up an e-mail loop so that discussion can continue through the week. You will learn to protect the work even as you discover the pain and eventual rewards when you "kill your darlings." The teaching artist has published close to 50 novels, worked with professional editors over the course of 30 years, and grapples with every writer's challenges from page one.
Bring your synopsis to class. This class will be most helpful to writers who have a project in the works—novel or memoir.
