Feel like a one-trick pony? Want to revise a lifeless poem? Looking to get out of your comfort zone and try something new? Join Chet'la Sebree for a poetry craft class that uses Dean Young's The Art of Recklessness: Poetry as Assertive Force and Contradiction as a guiding principle to help you get out of a rut to fix old problems and generate new work.

In The Art of Recklessness, Dean Young writes that "[p]oetry mitigates just as fire does, by witnessing its own necessary recklessness and sense of the sacred." In this class, you will get a chance to apply theory—as we pair Young quotes with surprising, energetic, "reckless" examples by poets from Barbara Guest to Harryette Mullen to Michael Bazzett—to practice through weekly readings, discussions, writing prompts, and opportunities to share and receive feedback on your work.

No class the week of Thanksgiving.
