Micromanaging Your Short Stories
Date: 10/4/17 – 12/6/17
Class Level: Open to All Levels
• Regular: $312.00
• Member: $280.80
This class will take the student through the whole process of writing literary fiction, from starting points to drafting to revision to fine-tuning. Students will be encouraged to finish a fast first draft the first week and then concentrate on revising and fine-tuning in the remaining seven weeks.
Considerable attention will be paid to strong characterization, plots with tightly woven drama points, thematic ideas, vivid settings, a compelling prose style, dialogue that makes scenes come alive—all the basics of great fiction writing.
Throughout the class, students will receive feedback on the writer's handling of the elements in the work. Comments will include strengths as well as weaknesses, with specific suggestions for effective revision. By the end of the class, short stories should be well on their way to finding a publisher.
No class the week of Thanksgiving.
