Excellence in Teaching Fellowships

The Loft Literary Center and the Madeline Island School for the Arts (MISA) invite nominations for the Excellence in Teaching Fellowship. Fellows receive one week at MISA to work on a writing project of their choice. Single occupancy lodging on the MISA campus is provided. Meals, including continental breakfast and box lunch at the MISA facility and a $20.00 per diem for dinner at an area restaurant are included. Transportation to and from MISA is not included.

MISA is one of the nation’s premier art and craft schools and is located on a uniquely restored Wisconsin dairy farm on Lake Superior’s Madeline Island, one of the Apostle Islands. The beauty of the natural environment, with its quaint village atmosphere, provides the perfect setting for writers to work on their craft.

Nominations are now being accepted for 2017 Loft/MISA Fellowships for Excellence in Teaching. If you are a Loft teaching artist, encourage your students to nominate fellow teaching artists you feel deserve this award - including yourself! You may also nominate yourself. Anyone who has taught at the Loft in 2016 and 2017 is eligible. Nomination forms can be requested from the Loft education office, and they will be placed in the evaluation packets of all Loft classes. 3 Loft teaching artists will be selected for fellowships at MISA on the following dates:

Summer fellowship: you may arrive at MISA as early as Saturday July 1, 2017 and depart as late as Saturday July 8, 2017.

Fall fellowship: you may arrive at MISA as early as Saturday September 2, 2017 and depart as late as Saturday, September 9, 2017.

Fellowships are meant to encourage one's writing practice, the start or completion of a writing project, and can accommodate one adult in a private room. Fellowships are also meant to encourage Loft teaching artist interest in teaching at MISA. Fellowships (space to write in single occupancy lodging, on site meals, and $20 per diem for off site dinner) are not meant to accommodate guests, friends, or family members. Transportation to MISA is the responsibility of each fellow. Nominees may select which date they prefer, but we can not guarantee a preferred date. If a date needs to be turned down, we will select an alternate for the fellowship; no other date options are provided, and we can not extend the fellowship into another year. Acceptance of the fellowship is the equivalent of acceptance of these terms. Nominations will be accepted through 5pm Friday April 14, 2017; nominees will be notified by end of day Tuesday, May 2, 2017 (this date is approximate, subject to change, patience appreciated).
