Nimrod Hall 2018

Writers' Retreat Schedule

“Nimrod is the best writing retreat you’ve probably never heard of — a hidden gem nestled in the Blue Ridge mountains. It’s a great opportunity to get structured writing time and smart feedback on your work while meeting talented fellow writers (many of whom have become good friends). Plus there’s delicious southern cooking, gorgeous art work hung everywhere, and the option to float on a tube down the river daily. It’s my writer sleepaway camp and I look forward to returning every summer.”— Ruth Gallogly Brooklyn, NY

Having the time and opportunity to write is something authors treasure. The Nimrod Arts Program for Writers, located at Nimrod Hall in beautiful Bath County, Virginia, is adapted from the colony format for peace, serenity, and respect for writers, writing time, as well as the writing process.

Two weeks are devoted to writers. Week One offers options. The first is a spot in a workshop with a professional writer, whose specialty is either poetry or fiction or non-fiction. The session includes feedback from other authors (novice and experienced), a private conference with the writer-in-residence, and plenty of time to write and relax. OR writers and visual artists may select an open spot to write and/or paint privately and enjoy conversation at meals with other writers as well as optional readings in the evenings.

Week Two, with author Charlotte Morgan, designs itself after writers arrive and the group determines what each wants/needs during this precious time apart. The week is as individual as the participants.

In both weeks, each writer will have a private room with a shared bath.  Additionally, there are 9 private writing studios available for rent. Writers are encouraged to read one another’s works and critique during the workshops, but mostly to work on their own projects. The atmosphere is encouraging, open, and constructive.
