Duluth, MN — Zenith Bookstore will open its doors to the public on July 1. Located at 318 N. Central Avenue in vibrant West Duluth, the independent, locally-owned bookshop will offer an expansive collection of gently-used books, as well as new books, in genres ranging from children’s literature to regional works. A selection of greeting cards, toys, journals, and other book-related items will be available as well.

The store resides in a brick building from the 1890s, and features hardwood floors, a comfortable reading area, and a literary-themed mural by local artist Tom Napoli showcasing the storefront. Opening hours will be Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Zenith Bookstore owners Bob and Angel Dobrow are realizing a decades-long dream by opening the bookshop. “We could not have done it without the help and support of our friends and family, and so many wonderful people we have met along the way,” they say. “These people painted walls, tore up carpeting, donated books, and gave some great advice.”

The couple just recently moved to Duluth from Northfield, Minnesota. Bob is retiring from 20 years of teaching math and statistics at Carleton College, and enjoys hiking, cooking, and karate. Angel is active in the sustainability movement, and plans to start an herbal practice in the Twin Ports. She and Bob have three grown sons and a dog, Lisa.

With the arrival of Zenith Bookstore, the Dobrows are eager to share their starting inventory of 20,000 titles with the Northland, and thrilled to offer a place that celebrates books and reading, while fostering a sense of inclusiveness and community. Special events such as children’s hour, author signings, and readings will be held in the space.

Zenith Bookstore will offer 10% off all used books through the month of July. Readers can stay tuned for updates by joining the mailing list on Facebook or at www.zenithbookstore.com, and are encouraged to mark their calendars for the grand opening celebration in mid-September (details to come).
