Events & Programs

The Loft helps to develop all types of writers, foster an inclusive writing community, and inspire a passion for literature. We do this through a wide variety of events, conferences, writer services, and educational programs. These take place at the Loft, online, and throughout the community.

Events and Readings

The Loft offers a diverse array of literary events, reading series, book launches, and more. We encourage everyone to participate. Writing Conferences

Every year we offer multiple writing conferences that specialize in a genre or target audience. We recruit renowned, national authors and publishing professionals to facilitate and teach at these conferences. Learn more.

First Pages

The "First Pages" program offers free, 90-minute creative-writing sessions to children and adults. The sessions take place across the Twin Cities at local libraries, who we partner with to provide this service. Learn more.

Manuscript Critique

Need help with your manuscript? The Loft will connect you to a published author, editor or industry professional, who will provide in-depth and personalized critique services. Open to writers of fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and children's and YA literature. Learn more.

Residency Program

The Loft can provide your school or organization with highly skilled writing teachers. This can be for a one-time seminar, or last as long as a school year. You decide what you need, and we'll work with you to set it up. Our teaching artists target the content to children, teenagers, or adults. Topics include fiction, poetry, or creative nonfiction. Poetry Out Loud

The Loft is the Minnesota partner for this national program. In it, high school students study poetry, then recite a favorite poem in local or national competitions. The program is immensely popular with student participants. They grow intellectually while developing a deeper understanding of and love for literature and performance.

Writing at Work

The Loft can bring a professional communicator / teacher to your business to provide writing instruction to staff. We focus on whatever topics are needed, from creativity to grammar. Teaching experts are available in: social media, digital communication, copywriting, strategic communications, style & grammar, narrative & storytelling. Seminars are half-day, full-day, or lunch. Don't Forget Loft Classes: In addition to our many special programs and events, the Loft continues to offer hundreds of classes throughout the year at our location in downtown Minneapolis.
