During this social hour, we encourage current and prospective friends of the Loft to come hang and write with us from 4:00 - 5:30 PM at Open Book and join us for the Writers of Color Open Mic Reading afterwards at 6:00 PM. Drinks and light snacks are provided. $10 or pay as you can at the door for general public; $5 for Friends of the Loft!

For our first book club, join the Loft’s Executive and Artistic Director, Arleta Little, to discuss the 2025 McKnight Judge in Creative Prose Valeria Luiselli's Tell Me How It Ends: An Essay in 40 Questions (Coffee House Press, 2017).

This practical workshop is designed for writers, editors, zinesters, and independent publishers who want to confidently find and use images in their creative work. Whether you're assembling a zine, designing an email newsletter, or laying out a self-published book, this session will help you make informed choices about what sort of images you can use, and where to acquire them.

Join The Loft Literary Center and Moon Palace Books for an evening with beloved writers Alexis Pauline Gumbs in conversation with Erin Sharkey, celebrating Dr. Gumbs' new book on the life of Audre Lorde!

Come, write about art in an immersive experience of exhibitions, lectures, and collections at the Minneapolis Art Institute. In this adventurous class, writer and Loft Executive & Artistic Director, Arleta Little, will invite participants to explore ekphrastic writing through discussion, exercises, and workshops while learning about visual art and artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. The Photography Studies class will offer behind the scenes access to Mia's Photography Study.
