Resource Library Work Study Position

The Loft Literary Center seeks a work study student to make the Rachel Anne Gaschott Resource Library a useful and welcoming space for readers and writers.

With a curated collection of literary journals and Minnesota- or Loft-related books/publications, the Loft also seeks to activate this public space to engage visitors in the creative themes and endeavors of the Loft. We want anyone who visits the library to walk away feeling their professional or personal creative growth has been engaged.

  • Shelve returned books and organize the stacks

  • Catalog and shelve acquisitions

  • Remove material that no longer meets the library’s criteria from the shelves

  • Create museum-style interactive elements to engage Loft visitors with themes and topics relevant to the Loft’s mission and outreach

  • Solicit and maintain relationships with local presses and local and national literary journals for donated copies of periodicals and books

  • Research Minnesota publications and other material that the library might acquire

  • Work with staff to program the library space to fit with larger organizational goals around programming, outreach, and engagement

Requirements: The ideal candidate is a self-starter and a creative thinker who believes in the Loft’s work to fuel an engaging, creative community of readers and writers.

Time Commitment: 3-5 hours every two weeks (divided each week or every other week).

Benefits: Compensation comes in the form of a 1-to-1 exchange of time spent working and time in a Loft class. Hours are tracked and then redeemable for the Loft class(es) of your choice.

In this position, you’ll also gain experience working at a unique nonprofit with a dynamic staff while overseeing library operations, gaining familiarity with local publishers, and making a distinct impact on the Loft community.

How to Apply: Email a cover letter and resume to tcurl@loft.org. Please attach documents in PDF format. Use the subject line ‘Loft Library Work Study’. Position is open until filled.
