Strategic Plan

The Loft hosts a wide variety of literary readings and performances featuring visiting, nationally acclaimed authors along with both accomplished and emerging local writers. A broad range of genres, forms, ethnicities, and geographic groups are represented. Frequently, a reception follows the readings. Readings include popular series such as Talking Volumes, the Loft Mentor Series, and the McKnight Artist Fellowships for Writers. Check the monthly Loft Calendar for a schedule of upcoming events

The Loft's Talking Volumes: Minnesota's Regional Book Club

Talking Volumes, Minnesota's nationally acclaimed regional book club, spotlights current books and their authors in Star Tribune articles, author appearances at Saint Paul's Fitzgerald Theater, and Minnesota Public Radio broadcasts. Talking Volumes is a partnership of Minnesota Public Radio and the Star Tribune in collaboration with The Loft Literary Center.

Raking through Books

Raking Through Books

Raking Through Books consists of two signature events: the Literary Love Fest in February and the Dead Writers’ Party in October. The Loft and Kieran’s Irish Pub cosponsor the events with help from the U of M Bookstores. Events take place at Kieran's Irish Pub, 601 N. 1st Ave., Minneapolis.

The Loft is grateful for all the support Raking Through Books has received over the years from readers, writers, Kieran’s, Secrets of the City, and the U of M Bookstores. Look for all kinds of literary events on the Loft’s website and on Rain Taxi’s literary calendar. Read on!

Loft activities are made possible through the generous contributions of Loft members, the Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008, a grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation Minnesota and a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. Major support is also provided by Jerome Foundation, The McKnight Foundation, Target Foundation, and Amazon.com.
