Thank you for your interest in becoming a Loft intern. Loft internships are a great way to explore a career in the nonprofit sector and experience what it means to work in the arts. We structure our internships on a job shadowing model for the purpose of educating interns so they can make informed professional decisions and gain experience for their future career. The Loft offers seasonal positions supporting our education, marketing, and development efforts. Positions are unpaid and can last from 1 to 5 months. The typical responsibilities and activities of an intern vary by season and by department but can involve research, clerical support, blogging, customer service, event coordination, photography and videography, publicity, classroom assistance, and participating in staff meetings. Education Intern (1 position) Spring position (February - May) 8 - 15 hours per week, primarily daytime, Tuesday – Friday Loft unpaid internships offer a flexible and enjoyable workplace, excellent supervision and mentoring, and the company of dedicated and creative colleagues. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Working with education staff, this intern will assist with daily operations in our education department. Some responsibilities include proof reading and course catalogue preparation, updating web content related to classes, processing course evaluations for research and archiving, as well as preparing and staffing writers’ conferences. QUALIFICATIONS: A demonstrated interest in learning more about the nonprofit arts sector and community arts education. Friendly and able to work with a diverse population in terms of age, race, socioeconomic background. Must be organized and detail oriented and possess basic administrative and computer skills (Microsoft Word and Excel a plus). APPLICATION DEADLINE: Open until filled/ January 10th. Development Intern (1 position) Spring position (February - May) 8 - 15 hours per week, primarily daytime, Tuesday – Friday Loft unpaid internships offer a flexible and enjoyable workplace, excellent supervision and mentoring, and the company of dedicated and creative colleagues. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: This intern will learn about and assist in the daily operations and administration of a mid sized arts non-profit. This position will assist all departments of The Loft Literary Center particularly in development and donor research, membership and Annual Fund mailings, special executive projects, and some customer service. Marketing and Communications Intern (1 position) Spring position (February - May) 8 - 15 hours per week, primarily daytime, Tuesday – Friday Loft unpaid internships offer a flexible and enjoyable workplace, excellent supervision and mentoring, and the company of dedicated and creative colleagues. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Loft's marketing and communications intern will focus on further developing and strategizing the Loft’s Facebook and Twitter pages and assist in developing content and coordinating content collection for the Loft’s blog, Writers’ Block, as well as offer general assistance with website content administration, and communications. QUALIFICATIONS: A demonstrated interest in learning more about arts organizations and nonprofit marketing and communications and an educational background in communications, marketing, website design or outreach. Demonstrated writing ability, basic computer skills (MS Office), and familiarity with social media a must. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail oriented, and creative. Interest in literary arts and experience with HTML or other Web languages a plus. APPLICATION DEADLINE: Open until filled/ January 10th. Small Press Library Intern Ongoing position with a minimum 3 month commitment. 4 – 10 hours per week. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: The library intern strives to make the Rachel Anne Gaschott Resource Library a useful and welcoming space for readers and writers. This collection of literary journals, books published by local, independent presses, and other publications by writers involved with the Loft serves as an informational and educational resource for the literary community. The intern will shelve returned books, catalog acquisitions, research new cataloguing methods and acquisitions, and other projects as time and interest permit such as creating digital archives of Loft materials. QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in learning more about the nonprofit arts sector, interest in library science, basic administrative and computer skills, and interest in the local literary community.
