Directions to the Loft

The Loft is located in Suite 200, Open Book, 1011 Washington Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415 (612-215-2575), in the Open Book literary arts center in Minneapolis. Open Book is located on Washington Avenue near the University of Minnesota's West Bank campus (see map). Exit Interstate 35W at Washington Avenue. Coming from Saint Paul, exit Interstate 94 at 5th Street. Coming from the northwest, exit Interstate 94 at 4th Street.

Take the Bus or Train

The MTC has several routes that connect to the bus stop in front of Open Book. Metro Transit can provide specific directions from your point of origin. Contact them at www.metrotransit.org or 612-373-3333.

The light rail station is three blocks from Open Book, on the Chicago Avenue side of the Metrodome. The Light Rail Transit destination is Downtown East/Metrodome. To reach the Loft from there, walk north on Chicago Avenue (toward the new Guthrie), then right on Washington Avenue to Open Book.

Parking

Limited free parking for Loft classes and events is available in the Open Book parking lot, behind and next to the building. Handicapped parking is available directly behind the building. We're pleased to announce a new parking option for Loft students located between 10th and 11th Avenues South just South of 3rd Street (the lot directly behind the colorful Valspar building) It costs $2 for up to three hours. Write Open Book along with your license plate on the envelope when you deposit it at the paybox. Parking is also available at local lots and ramps for a nominal fee and at parking meters on the streets surrounding Open Book.

Open Book

In early 2000, the Loft moved into its present home: a renovated warehouse building now known as Open Book. The building is also home to two other nationally known nonprofit groups: the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and Milkweed Editions. Open Book features the Coffee Gallery café, classrooms, a literary commons area, a resource library, meeting spaces for book clubs, private studios for writers, and the 200-seat Target Performance Hall. Accessibility

The Loft's facilities at Open Book are fully wheelchair accessible. Upon request, the Loft offers its printed materials in alternative formats for the visually impaired. Signing and assisted listening devices are available in the performance hall.
